Cub scout Space Derby… January 27, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brandy Young @ 10:15 pm

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll…it was rough going…that is about the best way to put it. Between space ships falling off, rubber bands breaking, the lines being uneven and the connector keeping the space ships on the line not staying together…it was a long night. The boys had a hard time staying upbeat about it all.

So needless to say, the Cub Master said he won’t ever do a Space Derby again… :/

On a happier note…there were some very cool space ships! There was a Steelers, a Cardinals, an Alien Catcher, a Space Shuttle and lots of other neat ones!

So with the Cards and Steelers representing…we of course had to race them at the end! And the Steelers won! LOL!

Today we had Ashlyn’s 6th Birthday Party!

She had 3 friends over and they all had a great time playing and eating cake and opening presents and playing some more! I surprised her with the Tinker Bell decorations and she loved them!

She got a few Littlest Pet Shops, a couple Barbies, lip gloss, a small white board, some Strawberry Shortcake magnets and a Gameboy SP! Oh and a tub of Peach Rings!

The smartest kid you’ll ever meet! January 22, 2009

After Corbin came home with the news that he had made it into the Spelling Bee…Seth proceeded to tell me that he purposely spelled his words wrong so he wouldn’t have to be in it! HAHA!!

And when I told him the word Corbin misspelled at his spelling bee today…he said he knew how to spell it. He said “w-i-g-w…w-i-g-w-a-m!” I laughed so hard! go Seth! :)

I’m sure Corbin’s misspell was due to nerves!

Seth’s class does “Service Projects”, from time to time. They go around the school grounds and pick up trash. Seth says it’s the 8th graders who are so messy and leave stuff all over the playground! LOL!

Corbin’s 4th Grade Spelling Bee! January 22, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brandy Young @ 3:15 pm

This was Corbin’s 2nd spelling bee! He did a great job; making it through 7 rounds.

He successfully spelled stay(practice round), huge, begin, learn, comb, applesauce, polite and eagle! He was eliminated on the 8th round on the word wigwam. He very confidently said “Wigwam, w-i-g-w-o-m, wigwam.” DING! Argh! “The correct spelling of the word is w-i-g-w-a-m.” Ahhhhh!… And as he walked off the stage I heard him say…”Wig-WHAM?” LOL! Then he came and sat next to me and said “I was so CLOSE! Yet SO far away!” heh…he’s quite the character!

The Bee started out with 17 kids from grades 3-5 and there were 6 left after Corbin was eliminated. So he made it pretty far!

“I’m Corbin Young, 4th Grade, Mrs. L-R.” he said nervously…he does great up there on stage but he does take a few minutes to get over the initial stage fright.

Sage gets pretty bored sitting around listening to the kids spell words…so of course she snaps pics when I’m not paying attention. LOL! She she took this one of herself she said, “I took a pitcher of myself!” Of course everyone in hearing distance…the whole room…started busting up! Goof ball…LOL!

Game night… January 21, 2009

At your ward Christmas party, I was pulled aside and asked if I would accept the calling as the ward Cub Scout Wolves Leader. With apprehension…I accepted. I haven’t had a lot of Cub Scout experience, for a few months in 2002 I was the Bear Assistant…but it didn’t require a lot of actual leadership on my part. So to be put in charge of the group definitely makes me nervous!

So this week was our 2nd week and we are working on their Play a Game Elective. It’s been a nice fun way to ease into the program!

Last night the boys and Ashlyn, played bean bag toss, ring toss and Eagle Golf, and one of the boys brought Operation to play.

New music Wednesday? Sure why not…I have been having a blah week and music is not inspiring me…ironic, given the fact that this week is “Lyric inspired” theme week.
(If you have no idea what I am referring to..CLICK HERE!)

Anyway…this week’s song…was just a random pick. And I like his name LOL!

He has also worked with Colbie Caillat and OneRepublic, and I love their music. :)

New schedules and new activities! January 14, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brandy Young @ 10:00 am

With a new year and a new semester in school the boys start new after school activities!

Our little Seth isn’t so little any more and he’s breaking out of his shell and getting more involved in school activities! He and Corbin both started and after school art program. They stay at school til 5:15 one day a week and participate in The Mud Puppies! They are both so excited!

For one half of the class they do ceramics and for the other half I’m not sure exactly what they do. They explained to me that they used copper. LOL! I didn’t understand what for but we’ll see where that goes in the coming weeks!

Corbin is all done with Drama. In order for the drama teacher to focus on the 3rd and Junior High drama clubs the 4th and 5th are done for the year. Corbin is still in the Science Club and Chess Club and loves going to both! His Science Club teacher was very excited about her plans for this half of the year and Corbin really enjoyed his first class last week!

I love that they go to a school that offers so many opportunities for learning and fun!

He sure doesn’t look too impressed but that was all for me! HAHA! He was embarrassed. And the class went a little crazy when they saw me with my camera…

Cuddle up with a good book… January 12, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brandy Young @ 7:09 pm

I’d love to say that she fell asleep engrossed in her “Bear in the Big Blue House” book…but she was actually hiding from me. She was mad that I wouldn’t let her play Playstation…I am a mean mommy!

She sat there with the book for awhile and I realized she hadn’t moved for bit. Sure enough she had crashed. Last night she had woke up around 3am and couldn’t sleep and then woke up to get ready for school at 6am, so she was beat after school!
