Whoa, what a day… March 29, 2009

Busy, busy, busy…Chaz and I had Cub Scout Training AND we had Pinewood Derby.

I got to get up at 6:30 to get ready for 8:30 training over in Prescott. I ended up being the only one from our den there. It was not that informative…and I almost feel like I wasted 3 and a half hours of my day. Don’t get me wrong, I want to make the boys experience in Cub Scouts fun and memorable…but I don’t feel like the training from yesterday and Tuesday did anything to help me with that. But it is required so I was willing to do it for that reason.

Corbin hadn’t been feeling good the whole day and almost didn’t get to race his car. He was so sad…he came to me and said…”Of all days why did I have to be sick today!?” He was crying and that got me crying. I felt so bad for him. But I guess the excitement of it all cured him because he ended up racing anyway. I was so happy he was able too!

Pinewood Derby was fun and interesting! It was Chaz’s first pack gathering as Cub Master and he did great running it…he was worried about being in front of everyone and leading the meeting but he did it like an old pro!

He told the boys about how the Pinewood Derby started and they all thought it was pretty cool!

We had a boy turn 8 on the 15th and since he isn’t a member and not on the church records (he’s a foster child) he wasn’t on our Cub Scout list for boys coming in. So his parent’s didn’t know about the derby until Tuesday. So we let him borrow Corbin’s car from his first year, just for the fun and experience. He ended up getting 5th place out of 14. We were pretty amazed because the car didn’t do that great the first time around!

This next pic gave Corbin 4th place and the black one moved on to the races for 1st, 2nd and 3rd!

Seth had a fun first year! He placed 2nd and was so excited! It all came down to 3 races between the last three cars. Each race moving the cars to a new lane to ensure they were given a fair chance. And each time it was close but they all went the same!

Seth’s car got The “Hottest” Car award…because it had flames all over it! Seth named his car “Fireball”.

I need to get better pics of the cars alone.

Corbin’ got The Most Intimidating award…because it had dragons all over it. He named his car “Dragonfire”. That was the name the decal set had on it. His design this year was a lot like last year’s.

Afterwards we went out for Dippin’ Dots!

Casualty… March 24, 2009

Over the weekend we had high winds…this of course is normal for Arizona springs…unfortunately!

I woke up Monday morning and the wind had died down…but the aftermath was still visible.

I went outside to start the van and noticed right away it was quite a bit more chilly than it had been last week. Then as I walked into the house I noticed something just wasn’t right in our neighbor’s back yard…upon further inspection (no I am not normally a nosey neighbor) I found that a tree in her backyard had blown over! It obviously didn’t have a very strong root system.

Luckily it didn’t land on any fences or sheds. Although I noticed her cute little birdhouses were knocked off their post. Hopefully there weren’t any birds taking up residence in them!

As we headed out for school I saw more evidence of the high winds…the mountains in the distance were barely visible with all the dust blowing around….

I think the wind is right up there with the heat on my list of reasons I dislike living in Arizona…

My blog is terribly unorganized…it lacks categories and tags that would make life so much easier! Blogging life that is. I can never find certain posts I’ve made because I never knew how to tag them or put them in categories, due more to my laziness than anything.

But lo and behold…there it is right down there

Came a yell from the backyard! Mom! We were moving rocks and…come out here! We found SNAKES!!

So I ran out there to see and sure enough they found snakes…6 or 7 total. Our kids and the neighbor kids went around our yard searching for them after finding the first of them.

They were pretty small…the biggest one being only 6-8 inches long and pretty skinny.

This one is one of the smaller ones. After it calmed down it slithered in and out of my fingers.

At one point they had 4 or 5 of them in a bottle…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! March 17, 2009

This morning after I had showered and came in to check on facebook…I saw all the St. Patty’s Day greetings and told the kids to come line up in front of me.

I said “So guess what day it is?” They all looked puzzled…So I quickly pinched each of them and said, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” as they all ran away screaming playfully! I had to chase Ashlyn down to her bedroom where she was cowering in the corner. LOL! They all quickly ran to their dressers to find anything they could that was green!

Now they are patiently waiting for dad to get home so they can attack him with pinches!

While they were waiting for him…they found a holiday craft book and Ashlyn and Seth quickly got to work on their very own Leprechaun costumes!

Arizona Sundogs… March 15, 2009

The boys and Ashlyn went to a hockey game with Chaz Friday night! They had a blast! The boys sat in a box suite with one of Seth’s friend’s family. Ashlyn and Chaz sat with some friends. They all got t-shirts with the Sundogs logo…they were white for a WHITEOUT! So Ashlyn came home all psyched over hockey and made her own logo! She had me draw the “S” and then colored it!

I really wish they would have taken a camera and taken pics of themselves at the game!

Granite Creek Park and the Courthouse…

My brother Alan and his wife Terri came to visit this weekend. So we took them over to Prescott and the kids(Alan and Chaz included) played at Granite Creek Park. And then we went to the Yavapai County Courthouse and walked around for a little while.

The weather was all over the place! It was nice and sunny when we left PV but when we got to Prescott it was cloudy and raining and windy. Then it cleared up a little while and was nice and sunny. Then we went to eat lunch and it got yucky again. And while we were at the courthouse it was sunny/cloudy off and on. We had a good time though!
