Fun Friday ~ June 26th ~ Ready, Set, GET WET! June 29, 2009
The weekend of the 18th-21st was Prescott Valley Days, so there was no Fun Friday.
We did go out and watch the parade, since we live on the main road that is goes up…and I forgot my camera. But I figured no big deal since we didn’t know anyone in the parade.
So the last fun Friday was the get wet day! The one the kids REALLY look forward to! The have a giant slip and slide, water gun fights, water balloon fights, watermelon eating contest and other games.
The girls didn’t have swim suits so we went and bought them new ones. I despise shopping for swim suits even for the girls! But we managed to find some cute ones.
Water gun fights are a free for all! Grab a gun and spray!
They had some small slip n’ slides set up too…
It was a nice warm morning…but the water still made them chilly…so they cuddled up in a towel!
Waiting in line for the giant slip n’ slide!
The best part of the whole day! A huge slip n’ slide! Sage opts for running down the length of it!
Ashlyn kinda flopped on this run…
Seth takes his turn!
Corbin made it down the slope!
Maybe the knees work better!
Bathing beauties! Ashlyn and Sage with their friend Kate!
Watermelon contest!!
No hands! Dig in!
Forget the rules!
And they are set loose with the water balloons!
Fun Friday ~ June 12th ~ True Red, White & Blue! June 29, 2009
The second fun Friday had a patriotic theme…at least the prizes did…lol
The kids played on the playground…and Seth drew a smiley in the sand.
And Corbin trapped himself…he was really stuck in there! I told him we would have to call the fire dept. to come saw him out! And luckily they were right next door! He finally wiggled his way out and decided it was a fun place to be and went right back. lol
They played kick ball and with a little coaching Sage and Ashlyn got on base! Corbin got to be the pitcher and somehow Seth ended up with the Boys and Girls Club group so I had to sneak off and find him to get a few pics of him! He has changed so much over the last year! Last summer he would have opted to sit with me rather than be sent off with out his brother or sisters! But he went off and played and had a good time!
They got to test their throwing arm and knock down milk bottles…
Yummy Red, White and Blue Jello!
And prizes!!
A bean bag toss!
And last but not least…Sack Races!!
Fun Friday ~ June 5th~ It’s a Summer Kickoff ~ Let’s Luau! June 29, 2009
This year Fun Fridays have been a bit of a let down…
First off there were only 3…last year there were at least 10, covering the whole summer.
They seem very unorganized, they start late and end early…but…the kids do have fun still and that’s what matters…right?
So to kick off the Fun Fridays they had a Luau! And it was WINDY! So making Leis was not a fun experience and I am pretty sure they stopped making them after the first group. The girls were in the first group that made them so they fought the wind and made pretty leis.
The boys played more games than the girls but I couldn’t leave the girls so I didn’t get many pics of the boys. You can see Corbin standing up behind the parachute on the left…Seth is in there somewhere too.
Sage was happy just running and dancing around!
Ashlyn had fun playing the dress-up race but later told me she did not like the glasses!
At this point the fun day had pretty much been abandoned by all the people in charge so the girls took turns crawling through the tunnels.
Sage found the hula hoops!
And helped pick up balls!
At the end they all got fruit salad!
Knights of the Round Table! Day 3… June 23, 2009
Grand Canyon Council
Cub Scout Day Camp 2009
So I woke up the 2nd day of day camp with a nasty headache and feeling all around yucky. So even though I had an offer from someone to watch the girls, I didn’t stay at camp.
Day 3, I had a sitter for the girls, was feeling great and was ready to go up and hang out with the boys!
Seth’s den was in charge of the flag ceremony again on the 2nd morning.
I ended up being unofficially assigned to Corbin’s den. I really didn’t want to be tied down because I wanted to be able to jump from group to group so I could get pictures of all the boys. But that didn’t work out.
Corbin’s den’s first activity was fishing at Goldwater Lake! In order to earn their fishing belt loop they had to bait their own hook, try to catch a fish and discuss the local fishing regulations and their importance.
It was a beautiful morning at the lake! As soon as we got their they told the boys to be very quiet as they walked to the lake. Sitting on the rocks across from where the boys were fishing was a Great Blue Heron! They are pretty common around here but still very cool to see one up close!
Corbin lost no time getting down to business! No one caught anything but they still had fun. After they made a good effort at trying to catch a fish they got to try and catch crawdads!
The boys get a run down on the local regulations of fishing.
After fishing, I was able to get away for a little while to see what Seth’s group was up to.
They were at the Archery Station! One of the favorite stations at camp! Seth almost got a Bulls Eye on one of his shots while I was there! He did a great job all around!
Seth’s den went to BB Guns next…but I had to get back to Corbin’s den. I only snapped a picture of them learning the rules.
At lunch time the boys had balloons launched at them!
After lunch Seth’s den were off to finish their shields! Seth put a Griffin on his. And it turned out really neat!
When we got home he brushed off more of the glitter because it was only supposed to be around the edges but it stuck to the paint.
Here are our Wolves! They all did a great job on their shields!
Corbin’s shield had a battle axe on it and then he drizzled paint all over it…it’s cool what kids come up with when you let them use their own creativity!
Here are our Bears and Webelos!
And that was the last activity of the day! It was a lot of fun and I am glad I had the opportunity to go and help out and hang out with the boys!
Knights of the Round Table!! Day 1… June 23, 2009
Grand Canyon Council
Cub Scout Day Camp 2009!
The boys got to go to day camp last week! It was a lot of fun all packed into 3 days! I was told this was the first time in at least 10 years that they had had a 3 day camp. So for three days we woke up earlier than a normal school day…got ready and were out the door by 7 the first day and 7:30 the last two days. Camp was out at Bradshaw Pines Campground, a 30-45 minute drive depending on traffic.
The girls and I stayed for a couple hours the first day so I could take some pictures and see what kinds of fun stuff they had in store! The boys were separated into “dens”. There were 13 dens in all and our pack was separated into 3 different dens. Which made taking pictures of all the boys difficult. (I also blog our packs activities, so I try to cover all the boys.) Easier said than done…
So we had boys in dens 3, 8 and 11…and the only time I managed to catch the two bears in den 8 was when they happened to be in the same place as den 11.
Seth’s den lead the opening and flag ceremony on the first day. They did a great job but were really hard to hear with such a large group.
Here are the boys in their official camp t-shirt…
Seth’s first activity was drama and they read the play about Old King Cole…at least that is what Seth thinks he remembers lol…I missed most of it and only came in when they were about to leave. Seth was the king…but he said he wasn’t much of a king, since he didn’t get to do much. LOL
Corbin first activity was Science at Merlin’s Cave! They got to make Dragon’s Drool! Which Corbin lost before we got home. :/
Seth’s den moved on to cooking next. They made trail mix and cinnamon biscuits. Seth said they were really good!
I caught Corbin’s den on their way back from Archery and had them stop and snapped a picture! They were a great group of boys! They got a lot of compliments on their behavior!
Next up…First Aid…The boys learned how to do CPR!
Seth’s den…at the Closing Ceremony…
So that was part of what happened the first day. The boys did a lot more that I didn’t manage to catch.
They made shields, played Badminton, learned how to shoot bb guns…and much more. I didn’t go up the second day…but day three is coming in the next post!
Party time! June 23, 2009
I noticed throughout the school year there weren’t nearly as many birthday invites as in years gone by. But the last day of school both Ashlyn and Seth brought home invites and they couldn’t have been more excited!
Ashlyn’s invite came from a little girl she had talked about all year! She was so excited to go! The theme was a Luau. It was the end of May, so it should have been perfect, right!? Wrong!
It was cloudy all morning and on the way over to Prescott for the party the sky looked menacing! And it started to rain. Not long after we arrived it began to rain…and then HAIL! Some of it was the size of quarters! And the street outside was flooding like crazy! I didn’t take my camera but here are a couple from my cell phone…they just don’t show what was actually going on, very well. It was crazy!
The kids had lots of fun despite the weather…playing games and eating yummy food! The weather finally cleared up at the end of the party and the kids went out and played on the slip-n-slide!
Seth was invited to his best friend’s party! He made a new friend his year and they were inseparable! When I called to RSVP his mom told me to bring the whole family! So I packed up the kids and headed to Dewey!
Chaz didn’t come because his dad was up for the weekend…they went out to Olive Garden for Soup, Salad & Breadsticks! YUM!
All the kids had a blast in the jump house! I love how easily kids make friends with new kids! The girls found new friends right away!
I’m not sure what exactly is going on here…lol…doesn’t look good but it was all good fun!
Maybe it was good fun…LOL! LET ME OUT!!! ROFL!!
Of course there were piñatas…as big as Sage!!!
A mad dash for the candy!! The best part!
Seth with “Little” Adrian…
Such different personalities here…but they get along great and are best buds!
Gotta love those piñata hats!
Time for cake and ice cream! Cake from Sam’s Club…it was really good!
Time for presents! Adrian broke $100 and his mom was visibly embarrassed by his reactions… :/ lol
All in all it was a great day! We ended up being there for 5+ hours! The kids had a blast and we left with only one injury…
Corbin jumped out of the bounce house and landed on the top of his foot. He limped around the house a couple days so we took him to the doc. Nothing major, no breaks and they just wrapped it and sent him home.
Catching up…again… June 22, 2009
Story of my blogging life…
I am still waiting on my external drive, hoping I get back all my pics! There are some on it that I never blogged.
So for now…on to what I do have.
As always…lots of pics!
On the last day of school, that my kids went to…I really didn’t feel like taking them the last day for 2 hours, the school put on a carnival.
I spent most of the morning with Ashlyn’s class so most of the pictures are of her. It’s hard trying to divide your time among all your kids at those events!
They did balloon tosses and sponge relays. They got to try and dunk their principals! That was probably one of their favorites! They had a jump house obstacle course that they all loved! And lots of other games and activities!
Ashlyn’s Butterfly! I guess I forgot to get a picture of Sage’s…She had a flower that I drew…there were way too many kids and not enough painters to keep up so I ended up painting faces when my kids were in there.
I managed to get a pic of Seth, as Ashlyn’s class passed by, trying to soak someone at the Burst game….
Ashlyn and Sage had a great time running through the Obstacle Bounce House.
Seth with some of his classmates, waiting for their next activity.
Corbin picking out a prize and waiting for his next activity.
Ashlyn was not thrilled about being put in the donkey head!
Sage was just happy to get to do it!
Seth having eyeballs painted all over his face!
Sage getting her second painting of the day. She got a butterfly this time.
Seth jumpin’ in!
Seth and his friend Alexis…they started a book club at the end of the year and were writing a story about a young wizard boy…sound familiar? Yeah he LOVES Harry Potter!
Scoopin’ up duckies!
Corbin’s MegaBuster! Painted by yours truly…lol…he was happy I was there to paint it because no one else would have known what he meant. LOL!
Seth’s Flat Stanley Project June 9, 2009
Seth’s 2nd Grade class did a Flat Stanley Project near the end of the school year. He had to send them to two people. So one of the ones we picked were his cousins in New York. The day they talked about his Flat Stanley, he came home and was very excited…apparently there were several students that didn’t get any back. So when school got out they sent the envelope home.
Seth’s Flat Stanley
This was his favorite postcard…he couldn’t wait to come home and tell his dad how to make hot wings!
His cousins live about a half hour from Rochester.
And only a couple hours from Niagara Falls. We went with them to see Niagara Falls when we went to visit in 2005.
The Erie Canal practically runs through their front yard.
They included are really cool map of the New York State Canals and information on the Erie Canal.
Seth really enjoyed seeing all the stuff that was sent and I am sure his class did too!
Thanks Joe and Nadine and kids!
